An open house in Turin becomes the gathering place around an extraordinary event: the end of life of Martina, a young psychotherapist who has devoted her research to understanding and processing grief and who, faced with her own illness, continues to question the meaning of existence. With irony, humility and a radical honesty in sharing her most intimate experiences, Martina transforms her home into a space of care, listening and dialogue, where friends, family members, therapists and doctors come together to confront the mystery of death. Her experience opens up an exploration that intertwines the frontiers of science, palliative care and spirituality, beyond all dogma and certainty. After her passing, Eugenio, her partner, carries forward her legacy and embarks on a journey through Italy, Mexico and the United States, meeting philosophers, scientists and spiritual guides to continue the experience they shared, in an (im)possible dialogue with Martina.

The Open House explores the boundaries of human experience and transforms the encounter with death into a collective experience, capable of illuminating the finiteness of life and restoring value to time, care and relationships, while exploring paths to knowledge, possibilities of transcendence and acceptance.

An intimate and universal journey between science and imagination, an act of tangible activism, a positive disruption of conventions and taboos surrounding the end of life, in which the intimacy of human relationships compels us to rethink the boundaries of reality in order to confront what is perhaps the most deeply rooted and least expressed human fear: death.
