“Vesti proibite” (Forbidden Clothes) is a nine-minute immersive film created by the creative studio MYBOSSWAS and Roberta Orsi Landini for the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, which tells the birth of fashion in Italy in 1300.
It is a dreamlike journey between the sumptuous laws and the Florentine fashion of the 14th century, the first to be documented by the voice of an old gentleman who reads to his granddaughter his ancestor’s writings found in the evocative library of the Academy of Fine Arts. Through the personal vicissitudes of an old notary of the time, the viewer is immersed in the magnificence of fabrics and designs that bear witness to the birth of fashion in Italy. The animations on two of the three screens were created through animated collages of medieval paintings and drawings reinterpreted by the girl’s mind.
