Feature film
The Importance of Being an Architect
Mybosswas urbancene
World Premiere
Triennale di Milano
Opening film at Milano Design Film Festival 2021.
A documentary film conceived as a virtual dialogue and a musical journey in four acts, exploring the responsibility of architects in shaping the society of tomorrow.
The film is distributed in Italy by Sky and internationally by Nexo Digital.
Through the perspective of Antonio Citterio, one of the most internationally renowned Italian designers, and Patricia Viel, co-founders of the Milan-based architecture studio ACPV, the film guides us through a vision of the architecture of tomorrow, founded on a form of armistice between nature and the built environment.
By alternating dialogues with figures from the worlds of fashion, art and design, and by examining some of ACPV’s key architectural projects, the documentary reflects on the post-Covid world, at a time marked by the climate crisis and the redefinition of urban life.
From computational design applied to international projects to technological innovation, and to travel as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, the film traces a poetic and visionary map of a possible future.
The film is internationally distributed by Nexo Digital; in Italy, the television rights have been acquired by Sky, and the film is part of the programming of NOW and Prime Video.
The latent energy contained within architectural spaces is evoked through musical scenes set in different parts of the world, Milan, L’Aquila, Hamburg, Taichung and Miami, where individual musicians play notes that, though distant in space, converge into a single composition capable of overcoming distance and projecting humanity into its natural habitat, the cities of tomorrow.

During the pandemic, at the beginning of 2020, we began to question what the future of our cities might be.
Our built environment contains latent energies capable of reshaping our confidence in the future and our sense of happiness, in a historical moment where disorientation seems to prevail. We are living in a time of transformation, in which, for the first time, nature is beginning to be perceived as something fundamentally integrated with us and with our cities.
To understand the direction in which to orient our thinking, we asked one of the most important architecture studios in Italy and internationally to share its experience and its vision.
We would like to thank Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel, ACPV, and all the contributors who shared their ideas throughout this journey, for helping us understand how care for the project, whatever its nature, should be projected toward a future that fosters conscious, collaborative and inclusive change, rather than being compressed within the pressures and urgencies of the present.
